Moving Forward

Hello again,

So, turns out I was not back at it when I said I was back at it in October 2017. Quite a lot has happened since then, including getting a new job, growing another year older, and finishing another year of nursing school. But the past few months have been some of the most difficult I have had in a very long time. The same busy schedule applies: juggling academics, clinicals, three leadership positions in school organizations, a job, friends, family, and my creative hobbies. When your mind is on a million things at once, sometimes it can be difficult to focus on the most important task at hand. It can be suffocating sometimes.

If I could give my six-months-ago-self advise, I would tell her:

  1. Take everything one step at a time. You may have a lot on your plate, but this does not mean you have to get it done all at once. It is more important that you are able to focus all of your attention on what it is needed for at the moment.
  2. Ask for help when you need it, and delegate when you need to. You are not alone. Teachers, friends, and co-workers are not only there to help you, but are willing to. Be thankful for them.
  3. Not everybody will meet your expectations. If so, you do not need to fill in the gap that they leave between your efforts. It is not your fault.
  4. It is good to be proud of your accomplishments. Use confidence as the force that will push you to accomplish more instead of simply trying to make up for your insufficiencies. Even when you don't feel like you are enough, you are. 
  5. Take everything in moderation. Don't let your indulgences get the better of you. Budget!
  6. Be thankful for what you have, and look forward to what you will have. You will feel disappointment at many points in the future, but focus on what you have-- not what you do not have.

Now one week out of school, I am learning to breathe again. This Summer break is much needed time to actually work on taking the advise I would have given myself earlier. To anyone else who may be feeling crushed under stress or worries, I hope my advise may help you as well. Seasons change, Spring is here, and the cherry blossoms are in bloom.
